Duties and Responsibilities
Teach! non-credit nurseâs aide course to prepare students for the Hawaii State Nurse Assistant Competency Evaluation Testing Program.
Develop curriculum for nurseâs aide training as defined by state and federal laws under OBRA 1987; adapt and revise curriculum as necessary.
Conduct classroom and supervise clinical training in the fundamentals of safe, knowledgeable, and professional care required of nurseâs aides.
Develop instructional materials and activities to address student needs as appropriate; provide assistance to meet the needs and learning styles of students.
Work activities include, but are not limited to, evaluating studentâs progress, maintaining records, and working with program staff to prepare reports.
Work with counselors in a team approach and with other instructors to enhance studentâs acquisition of basic skills such as reading, mathematics, and communicating.
Participate in professional and self-! development activities.
Perform related duties as ass! igned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associates degree in Nursing and Registered Nurse eligible for Hawaii State License, license required prior to assumption of clinical responsibilities.
Or, licensed practical nurse, pharmacist, physician, dietitian, social work, fire safety expert, psychologist, nursing home administrator, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech/language/hearing therapist, and resident rights expert with at least one year of experience in the field.
If no qualified applicants are available others will be considered on an Acting Instructor basis.
Desirable Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain rapport with adults, including individuals with limited English skills, the economically disadvantaged, and other non-traditional students.
Demonstrated ability to work within a multi-cultural setting.
Teaching or supervisory training experience.
Ability to s! upervise students in all instructional and clinical activities with focus on information and skills required of nurseâs aides.
Ability to use various teaching styles to suit different learning styles.
First Aid and CPR instructor certification.
Completion of a course in teaching adults or having experience in teaching adults or supervising nurse aides.
