APS5 - Coordinator, Digital Preservation

The Library is seeking to fill the role of APS 5 Coordinator, Digital Preservation who will demonstrate our Business and Leadership Functions, uphold the APS and Library Values.

This role is responsible for analysing data from the Library’s digital preservation system to identify digital preservation issues and risks, investigating them and proposing and implementing solutions to resolve or mitigate them; designing and implementing digital preservation workflows and overseeing and assisting Library staff with processing digital collection material into the Library’s digital preservation system and; undertaking applied research on file-format support and implementing the NLA Digital Preservation Knowledge Base.

You will have a sound general knowledge and provide technical expertise on complex issues, working across a broad range of activities that potentially relate to the work of different program areas and/or stakeholders. This necessitates the effective management of competing priorities and includes activities relevant to:

  • Implementing the Digital Preservation program.
  • Providing technical guidance for investigations into the preservation management system.
  • Determining preservation approaches for “at-risk” formats.
  • Ensuring the digital preservation software system continues to meet the business needs of the NLA.

You will take responsibility for ensuring:

  • The digital preservation software system continues to meet the business needs of the NLA.
  • Published and unpublished digital collection material is available for long term access.

This role will also apply innovative initiatives to contribute to the improvement in quality and efficiency of the organisations digital workflow that affects digital preservation and contribute to the provision of professional advice for the development of policies, strategies and procedures.

You will have qualifications or equivalent experience in Information technology or cultural material conservation.

You will also have experience in a digital preservation program in a collecting organisation.

A merit pool may be established from this recruitment activity which may be used to fill similar vacancies at the Library.
