An exciting opportunity exists to join the Automation Systems Group, part of the world renowned WMG at the University of Warwick to work on the detailed specification, prototype design, development, documentation, maintenance and update of newly developed software products for the manufacturing engineering domain.

Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

Undertake research to support the work of the Automation Systems Group and develop and enhance its reputation, both internally and externally by assisting the Project Leader and, where appropriate, project collaborators in the successful execution of the projects.

PROJECT SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To carry out research on the relevant project: composable micro-factory component model that includes all physical and digital systems needed to support production functions, physical and digital interfaces needed to be composed with other micro-factories into macro-level systems.
2. To provide specialist technical recommendations, practical tools and design resolution advice for manufacturing and performance within the project, particularly on software development.
3. To share information with colleagues and produce recommendations.
4. To manage research aspects of the project including contributing to academic publications, technical reports and other presentations and dissemination methods
5. To assist with the development and delivery of teaching and training materials to disseminate the research findings in a format that will encourage successful implementation.
6. To identify, operate and install suitable equipment to support the project objectives. Carrying out suitable tests to evaluate the equipment performance effect on product to push forward the boundaries of current knowledge in each topic area.
7. To record and track the delivery of outputs during research & identify routes for achievement of targets.

DUTIES

Research and scholarship
1. Undertake basic research, for example by preparing, setting up, conducting and recording the outcome of experiments and field work, developing questionnaires and conducting surveys.
2. Conduct literature and database searches.
3. Continue to update knowledge and develop skills.
4. Write up results of own research.
5. Contribute to the production of research reports and publications.

Teaching and Learning Support
1. Assist in the supervision of student projects.
2. Give demonstrations to students.
3. Could be expected to contribute to introductory courses, for example on the use of research methods and equipment.

Administration and Other Activities
1. Participate in department life and may be required to attend departmental meetings.
2. Ensure compliance with health and safety in all aspects of work.
3. Work within budget constraints.
